Meet the fighter pilots of the 801 Tactical Training Squadron, codenamed Airbats. With their sleek curves and lightning fast moves, they give new meaning to the term "the friendly skies" - and I'm not talking about their jets! The Airbats are the hottest, wildest team of female flyers you'll ever meet, and when they climb into the cockpit, the clear blue skies of Japan aren't big enough to contain all the aerial action these ladies get into! Whether it's ghostbusting the spirit of a dead kamikaze Zero pilot, facing off against a team of world famous American aeronautical acrobats, or winning a year's supply of noodles in a ramen-noodle-eating contest, you'd better believe the Airbats have the "right stuff" to get the job done!
When aviation mechanic (and anime fanboy) Takuya Isurugi is transferred to the 801st Tactical Training Squadron, he gets more than he bargained for. Moderated by hard-headed veteran ace Mitsuru Konishi, the "Airbats" are an all-female aerial acrobatic team consisting of loose cannons Miyuki Haneda and Arisa Mitaka, karaoke freak and gambling genius Sakura Saginomiya, and junk food lover Yoko Shimorenjaku. Both Haneda and Mitaka do not get along with each other, and their rivalry worsens when they both fall for Isurugi. But with the entire JASDF having doubts about the team, the Airbats must work as a team or face total disbandment.
The 801 Tactical Training Squad is an all-female acrobatic pilot team, a massive PR stunt by the Japanese military, and apparently a dumping ground for trouble makers; Haneda Miyuki struck a superior officer, Mitaka Arisa is a hot-head who doesn't get along with anyone, and Shimorenjaku Yoko is a terrible pilot. But for Isurugi Takuya, a budding service technician, it is a dream come true to work with aircraft and those who love them. However, as quickly as it started, it might come to an end; to cut operational costs, the military is looking for any excuse to pull the plug on the 801. With the constant threat of being disbanded looming over their heads, can everyone pull together to keep the 801 TTS going?
