AquarionTV, ep.26 (~24 min.), 2005
When the Shadow Angels invade after 12,000 years of slumber, humanity is held captive by fear and sheer alien dominance. Eleven years after the Great Catastrophe decimated the world, most of those left alive are scavengers, dirty and starving in the streets. There is hope, however - Mechanical Angel Aquarion! Powered by three souls intertwined, a rare breed of pilot takes the controls. Known as Elements, one among them must rise if mankind is to survive. Prophecy is being fulfilled as the end of the world approaches Through a swirling cloud of love, betrayal, loss and destiny, the last hope for the new century arrives and takes flight!
In a distant future, humanity once again is facing the threat of the "Shadow Angels." Mystical creatures who returned after 12,000 years of absence. They attack human cities and kidnap their inhabitants in order to drain their "prana" (vital energy). To fight against them, youngsters with special powers from around the world were gathered and trained to pilot the "vector machines," three ancient ships that together form mankind's ultimate weapon, "Aquarion." The story revolves mainly around Apollo, a teenager rumored as the reincarnation of Apolonius, a fallen angel who fought against his own kind to protect mankind. Few believe it could be true, but the fact is that despite his untamed and reckless nature, he proved to be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Shadow Angels.
Long ago there was a battle between angels and humans, which ultimately ended with the angels’ retreat. Twelve thousand years later, the angels have become active again and have begun harvesting humans for nefarious purposes; and only the pilots of the ancient mecha known as Aquarion are able to oppose the angels' tools of war. The pilots have special powers, but the secret to defeating the Angels once and for all lies with the reincarnations of the two beings who defended humanity against the Angels in the past: Apollonius, an Angel who turned his back on his kind in order to protect humanity; and Siren, his human lover. Only Apollonius can awaken the true strength within Aquarion that is needed to defeat the angels; but who is the reincarnation of Apollonius?
