1925. Six years since the end of the Great War, four years since women were allowed to join political associations, and one year since Emperor Hirohito assumed the throne. Japan is a nation re-inventing itself, swept by wave after wave of wars, disasters and political unrest. War looms in China, males over the age of 24 are about to receive the right to vote, and a strange new type of school uniform called the "sailor suit" is being introduced. But at least the national pastime, baseball, remains bound by tradition, the exclusive realm of men and boys - until now.

When a local player arrogantly states that girls should become housewives instead of going to school, teenage firebrands Koume and Akiko respond by forming their own baseball team. It's shocking. It's scandalous. And yet, in a nation in which almost anything seems suddenly possible, it may just be the start of something greater than any nine girls can imagine.
In 1925 (year 14 of the Taisho era) baseball is still quite unknown in Japan and there are only a few male teams. After being told by a baseball player that women should become housewives instead of going to school, 14-year-old Akiko invites her friend Koume to start a baseball team in order to prove him wrong. During this time, when even running was considered too vulgar for women, baseball is known as "what the boys do" and they face many difficulties when having to find enough members, to get permission from their parents and also when learning about the sport itself, which they soon discover to be more difficult than expected.
The year is 1925 and Japan is still a country with socially backwards views, particularly on women's rights. One young girl named Akiko Ogasawara decides to fight for equality in her own way - by forming a girls' baseball team! She soon enlists her good friend Koume Suzukawa, and it's now up to the two of them to put together a team of like-minded and spirited young ladies. Under the able and enthusiastic tutelage of English teacher Miss Garland, the girls will need to bond closely, learn well and practice hard if they are to stand their ground against boys' teams and show a misogynistic society exactly what they're made of... while having some fun in the process.
