To ease all the pain and suffering in this world is no simple task, but young Kobato earnestly believes that she has the talent and ability to do just that! However, the half-human creature known as
Ioryogi doubts whether the strange girl with the mysterious past is truly ready to receive the mystical flask Kobato needs to achieve her goal, a special bottle gifted with the ability to capture the pain and sorrow of a broken heart once it’s been healed. There’s really only one way to find out if Kobato truly deserves the right to use the flask – Ioryogi decides to send Kobato on her first assignment!
Sweet and naïve Hanato Kobato came to Earth on a mission to collect and fill a bottle with “konpeito,” which appear after healing a person’s heart that is suffering. Kobato collects these because it is her wish to go to a certain place. Despite her strangeness, Kobato turns out to be well-suited for this mission as her heartfelt sincerity in helping others earns her the love and admiration of everyone she meets. However, she is not allowed to fall in love with anyone whose heart she heals.
The cheery Kobato Hanato is on a mission to heal people’s damaged hearts and gather the resulting “konpeito”; she must collect one hundred of these candy-shaped trophies in order for her deepest wish to be granted: to go to a certain place. Along the way, she’s accompanied by an ever-disgruntled, talking stuffed animal of a guardian named Ioryogi who scores her efforts, attempts to keep her on-track, and reminds her of the rule governing her task: she only has one year to fulfill her goal.
