At the end of World War II, he was repatriated from southern Sakhalin and moved to Tokyo. In 1957, he graduated from the Haiyuza Training School and was promoted to a member of the Haiyuza troupe. In 1958, he appeared in NHK's "The Case Reporter". Since then, he has been active in a wide variety of roles, mainly on television, but also in films and on stage.
He is also a voice actor, dubbing Western movies, including William Holden, and in the 1980s, he voiced Sean Connery in many of TV programs.
