In this game, players pit monster against monster in high intensity duels. Yugi and his friends are obsessed with the game, which is packed with awesome monsters and powerful spell cards. But there’s more to this game than meets the eye. Yugi solves an old Egyptian puzzle that infuses him with the energy of an ancient spirit. Their forces unite to form a stronger, more confident duelist, for Yugi needs all the help he can get – the fate of the world is in the balance!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters centers around the journey of the spirit of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who is trying to re-discover who he was many years ago, since he has lost his memories. With the help of a boy, Yugi Mutou, the one who awakened the spirit, and his friends, he battles many villains and adversaries. Many of the villains have been linked to the Nameless Pharaoh’s past, due to the Millennium Puzzle he holds and many try to take the puzzle and his power away from him.
The series focuses on the card game aspect of it and the main theme represented throughout the series is friendship.

Ever since Yugi Mutou completed the Millennium Puzzle his life has changed; he’s made friends, learned how to play the card game Duel Monsters and has gained more confidence in himself. After his grandfather is beaten in a duel he is challenged by Seto Kaiba, ranked number two in the world, but Yugi beats him regardless. Now, as a result of his victory, Yugi has attracted the attention of the game’s creator, Pegasus. Yugi is then challenged to a dual in an alternate reality where magic brings the monsters to life, but is beaten and his grandfather’s soul is taken. In order to retrieve it Yugi must now participate in a tournament against the best duelists in the world, defeat the game’s creator, and learn more about the secrets within his Millennium Puzzle!
