Another belief is that if you have unpaid debts, a cat will jump over your dead body and you’ll become a ghost. Joyoprono, a rich landlord and a loan shark, who was greedy during his life dies when a tree falls on him. After his death, a ‘pocong’ ghost comes to the village and disturbs the peace.

Sabeni or Ben is an amateur painter who lives in Puncak. He meets Grace and Yuni the sisters, who are replacing their car’s tyre. Ben helps them and thereafter goes often to see Grace. Grace is a daughter of a rich businessman and she asks him to join her band when she learns that Ben is a singer. When Grace’s father is ill, she rushes home and Ben tries to go after her even though he doesn’t know her address. He only knows the address of his friend, Bagio, located behind a tall building that is actually the office of Grace’s father. Finally, Ben becomes a famous singer but Grace’s father still disapproves. Grace is instead matched with Mansjur, who turns out to be a playboy. Thereafter, Grace’s father permits Ben to see her again.

On his way there, he meets Erni, a high school friend who is also heading to the same village. In the village, he stays in the house of the village chief and his daughter, Euis, is a beautiful young woman. During his work, the locals often distract Benny, since they want Euis’ attention. The relationship between Euis and Benny deteriorates further when Erni comes with her group. The misunderstanding is overcome when she realises that Erni comes to join the harvesting party in the village and to entertain them with her singing.

There is a flurry of excitement as everyone tries to get the tycoon’s employees to drop by their stands. Mansur, one of business owners in the fair, asks his secretary, Sinta, to find Andi Rachmat Syah, the tycoon. Sinta then approaches Andi, a handsome man employed by the tycoon, to find out about his boss. The man promises to tell Sinta on one condition, that she has to take him around the fair. Samiaji, Mansur’s business competitor, who has a crush on Sinta, is jealous when he finds out about it. Till the end of the story, nobody knows that Andi takes Sinta home after nights of going around the Jakarta Fair.

The “Maut Club” (Death Club) gang is led by Bing, nicknamed The Boss, and consists of kids. Some are rascals; some are just curious, while some are just bored. Harassing people on the street is what the group does. One day, there is a fight between Maut Club and the Harimau Lapar (Hungry Tiger) gang, during which Benyamin accidently shoots a policeman. Everyone is caught except for Boss and Benyamin. In prison, Vivi, who has rich parents, tries to commit suicide out of shame. She manages to get a house arrest instead, thanks to the efforts of Eddy Sud, a university student who lives with Vivi’s family. Boss and Benyamin come to the house and the latter confesses that he was the one who shot the policeman. Boss and Benyamin then turn themselves in to the police. The story ends with a farewell party for Vivi, who is going abroad to study. Boss sings a song titled “Kembali ke Jalan yang Benar” or “Returning to a Righteous Path”.

Beniman is arrested, and the officer interrogating him is Hamid, Ida's father.
