Just outside Jullerup Færgeby, three children named Anton, Kaja, and Knud live with their parents in a lighthouse. Every day, the three children row into town to go on treasure hunts with their friends Vera and 44. Among other things, they find a secret cave, which they call "HH." Jullerup Færgeby is also home to old Captain Gus, who follows all the daily events in the town. He watches when the cutter comes home, when the oversized fish export truck drives through town, when the man in the crane is constantly unlucky and shouts "It's stuck", and when Anton repeatedly tears his trousers.

Parents are just a nuisance, and when you finally want to take care of serving the guests, somehow it all goes wrong. It's a shame, because you just wanted to do it so well. Lykke Nielsen translated the best of the best from her books into this film. The children were happy to play along and at one point said that they would like to play in more films. That wasn't to be, but the film remains a sweet and funny everyday story that reflects the children's innermost dreams: to be allowed to be themselves without too much interference from outside. Throughout the film, the children go through a lot before they turn the villains over to the authorities, but that's how a children's film should be.

The city is a dangerous place, but it also has cute, amusing, cheeky playmates such as Sidse, whose family boasts a pirate, and Hassan's family, who introduce food-loving Ingolf to feta cheese and belly-dancing.
