For fans of history, this glimpse of Munich society in the 1920s will be a much-treasured event. The story revolves around an art-gallery manager who puts on a show featuring the scandalous works of a woman artist who committed suicide. He is unjustly accused of having committed adultery with her, and for some reason the authorities decide to make an example of him. He is imprisoned at about the same time that Hitler and the nascent Nazi party attempt the infamous Beer Hall Putsch, and the gallery manager's girlfriend and a Swiss writer valiantly (and unsuccessfully) attempt to get better justice for him. Nobody in authority, it seems, has the courage to take up the challenge of righting this particular injustice.

The opportunities open to his peers are closed to him, "the Belgian". The people of Munich dub his strange name "Tibo". When Tibo is suspected of stealing a moped and ends up in front of the juvenile court, the course is set for him to slip away. Tibo does not receive a work permit and certainly not German citizenship. But suddenly new paths open up for Tibo...

It is said to be the result of an affair between his mother and the recently deceased old man. And he threatens to reveal this secret posthumously if Singhammer doesn't parry. A letter to this effect has been deposited with the notary. The scandal can be avoided if a "red" vote is cast in every election from now on.

To commemorate this hunting trip, the people of Gombach celebrate an annual festival at which the Prince Regent's target is shot. The Prince Regent never misses the chance to shoot in the competition and of course he wins every time. But the truth is that he is a lousy shot and the people of Gombach find it harder and harder not to beat him every year.

Bernhard "Big Mäc" Maurer, an ex-motorcycle freak and bored piano teacher, is voted the "perfect motorcyclist" by the trade magazine Motorrad after quitting his job as a music teacher at a Munich high school. Maurer agrees and chooses as his second man, the technician, his young neighbor Max. Max, for whom an apprenticeship is at stake, injures himself shortly before the start of the rally and has to sit out. Without Maurer's knowledge, Max's almost identical-looking sister Maxi takes over the role of the boy.

The Munich commercial film director Augustin is thrown out because he hasn't paid the rent. Together with the unsuccessful Austrian writer Roland, whom he doesn't really like, he moves into his grandmother's former restaurant. The two men decide to reopen the pub. Although they only serve sausages and schnapps, they are surprisingly successful. But the landlord has other plans.
