The Alien (1915)
Character: Pietro Massena
Poor ditch-digger, Pietro Massena, lovingly raises his daughter Rosina. After Phil Griswold's inheritance goes to his brother William, Phil orchestrates a series of crimes to get money framing Pietro. First he has a friend rob a flower shop then when William refuses him money, Phil kidnaps William's daughter Dorothy and sends a ransom note, blaming Pietro. William accidentally runs over Rosina while searching for Pietro in the slums. The grieving Pietro is then framed for the kidnapping when he visits the flower shop for a rose for Rosina's coffin on Christmas morning. The situation is resolved when William announces Dorothy has been found, and Pietro, despite an offer of compensation, sorrowfully returns home.

His Sweetheart (1917)

Joe, a good natured Italian, runs a basement ice, coal, and wood establishment in the cheap Italian "East Side." Trina, daughter of old Capino, a cobbler, lives next door. She is fond of Joe and is relieved when she learns that Joe's "sweetheart," who arrives from Italy, is none other than his little old "Mama Mia," his mother.

Mr. Kendall, a wealthy man who had sent his infant son to a home after the death of his mother at birth, decides that it is time for his son to come home. On his carriage ride to the father he has never seen, however, the boy mysteriously disappears. At the same time, a woman deposits a little boy on the cart of Italian junk man Niccolo Darini, and then disappears.

Lupino Delchini, a waiter in a little restaurant, is discharged for giving food to a penniless beggar, and Detective Hartley rewards the Italian by getting him an appointment as pound master. Flora is attracted to Lupino by his kindness, but when he adopts a small Belgian boy, he falls in love with Madame Maureveau, whom he believes to be the boy's mother.

The Greatest Love of All (1924)

Joe, a poor Italian iceman, saves enough money both to furnish a basement apartment in New York and to arrange passage to America from the old country for his mother. Joe is soon engaged to Trina, and Joe's mother secretly finds work doing laundry in the home of District Attorney Kelland, in order to help them save enough to be married. When a diamond bracelet belonging to Mrs. Kelland disappears, Joe's mother finds it in the dirty linen, but, before she can return it, she is seen with it and arrested as a thief.

But our hero's cause is championed by muckraking newspaper reporter Bump Rundle (Raymond Hatton), who takes on and exposes the Regan political machine.

Silent Italy immigrant family relationship romantic melodrama about a poor Italian flower seller whose mother gets sick. The doctor tells him to take his mother to Arizona, which he does with his wife and child. The railroad men in Arizona think he is the start of a wave of Italian immigrants coming to take away their jobs, but they meet his darling son, Beppo, who wins them over. But then, his wife dies, and he gets involved with an immigrant Italian woman who takes Beppo back to Italy, but the railroad men help him get Beppo back. It turns out his land has oil on it, so he's fabulously rich, and he shares the fortune with the railroad men!
