Maja's business takes place in a small general store in a small town somewhere in Sweden. Every day, Dag-Otto comes there to leave mail, but because he is very fond of Maja, he is happy to stay and help her with all sorts of chores. In each episode, something happens that requires an urgent mathematical solution. To solve the problem, an understanding of some basic arithmetic skills is required. Unfortunately, Maja and Dag-Otto are not big fans of math, and a lot of funny complications and situations arise when they try to fix that dilemma.

The year is 1961, and Ruben and Gunhild Olsson have decided to go on vacation to Denmark. The only problem is that Ruben has squandered all their money on "crazy" deals. The postman Dag-Otto has won a trip to Mallorca. He bought the ticket from his substitute Fritjof, who was recently released from prison. Ruben becomes very jealous of Dag-Otto and buys a hotel from Fritjof, Empradaporro. But the problems pile up even more when it turns out that they all end up at this hotel. There they meet the only employee at the hotel, Felipe.

The household also includes Aurore's niece Maj-Britt and the maid Malin. Malin is constantly in love and is currently being courted by police officer Karlsson and postman Dag-Otto. Johan, a bricklayer, lives in the smaller cottage. He is married to Hanna, and their son Albin is studying to become an engineer. The differences between the two brothers often lead to discord between them, and when Albin and Maj-Britt fall in love, no one is pleased.
