They arrange to meet at their usual spot over the phone. Alfrēds waits with white roses, but when she sees a pre-war car whose driver has gone to return some bottles, she gets in to reminisce and drive around Riga.

Realising that the fate of World War III now rests in his hands, Władek is forced to confront his own actions and the consequences of his choices.
