After the revolution of December 1989, Romania is in full transition. Incertainty and chaos have followed Ceausescu's downfall. Fane, a worker in a wharf on the river Danube, is a former dissident who was in involved in politically motivated uprisings. Now that he has achieved what he has fought for, he is unemployed and everything around him seems to fall to pieces. His whole family falls victim to the changes of the early 90s. His daughter prostitutes herself, his elder son ends up in prison and his younger son becomes a thief.

The party - which has increased with Piri, the interpreter, and Ági, the hitch-hiker - gets to a Romanian village by Peter's ramshackle car, a 1921 Colymne. The car, however, breaks down.

For twenty years he lived with an uncle in Naples, then returned to his native city with his servant Arlecchino. Here, he has the opportunity to meet Dr. Balanzoni's daughters, Rosaura and Beatrice, while, in the absence of their father, they enjoy being serenaded by an unknown admirer on the terrace of the house. The author of the serenade is Florindo, a student and tenant of the doctor, who shyly loves Rosaura, not daring to reveal his feelings. Lelio does not miss the opportunity: he introduces himself to the girls in the guise of a rich marquis and claims that he is the author of the serenade, without revealing which of the two he is in love with. But for the sake of the art of "spiritual inventions", Lelio delights in describing himself in various lies, not without undesirable consequences...

This rather unconventional Western movie is set in the middle of the 19th century in Arizona. The film portrays an Indian tribe, the Mimbreno Appacheans, who are celebrating their Thanksgiving, building an irrigation plant, carrying on commerce, and trying to settle down in a rather constricted territory. But the confrontation with the white Americans changes their situation as the mercantile "gentlemen" want to prevent the Indian tribe to become independent from the white men′s business practices. Thus, they destroy the irrigation plant and chase the Indian tribe in an inhospitable territory where they cannot survive. Led by their chief Ulzana, the Appacheans thus start a bitter fight to preserve their habitat.
