Credits

Histoire du soldat inconnu Histoire du soldat inconnu (1932) Character: Himself (archive footage)
Built from 1928 newsreels—the year 60 nations vowed to outlaw war—Storck’s razor-edged montage mocks the era’s self-congratulation by cross-cutting speeches and parades with portents of renewed violence: nationalism, colonial repression, police brutality. Slow-motion collapsing chimneys and the exhumation of an “unknown soldier” give the satire its sting.
Images et Paroles du Maréchal Pétain Images et Paroles du Maréchal Pétain (1940) Character: N/A

L'Abécédaire du Maréchal L'Abécédaire du Maréchal (1979) Character: N/A
This film shows the instruments of the Vichy government's propaganda among young people and, more specifically, the images distributed in the form of ABC books, posters, newsreels or propaganda. It shows the speech of Pétain, Georges Lamirand, general secretary for youth, Marcel Déat, founder of the National Popular Rally and Jacques Doriot, founder of the French Popular Party.
Verdun, visions d'histoire Verdun, visions d'histoire (1928) Character: General Petain
A dramatized re-enactment and documentary of the Battle of Verdun as seen by both French and German soldiers, shot on site of the actual battle.
La Passeuse des Aubrais, 1942 La Passeuse des Aubrais, 1942 (2016) Character: Self - Politician (archive footage)
A captivating and personal detective story that uncovers the truth behind the childhood of Michaël Prazan's father, who escaped from Nazi-occupied France in 1942 thanks to the efforts of a female smuggler with mysterious motivations.
Pétain, un héros si populaire Pétain, un héros si populaire (2010) Character: Self (archive footage)
On October 24, 1940, Philippe Pétain met Adolf Hitler in Montoire and led the French into collaboration with the Nazis. A black page in the history of France, written by a man whom many then considered a hero: the winner of Verdun.
Apocalypse, Verdun Apocalypse, Verdun (2016) Character: Self (archive footage)
A detailed account of one of the bloodiest battles of World War I. Between February and December 1916, the French and German armies relentlessly fought in the devastated camps around the village of Verdun.
Johnny Got His Gun Johnny Got His Gun (1971) Character: Self - Opening Credits (archive footage) (uncredited)
A young American soldier, rendered in pseudocoma from an artillery shell from WWI, recalls his life leading up to that point.
La Guerra de África La Guerra de África (1926) Character: N/A
Documentary with propagandistic content about the colonial war of Spain in Morocco. Beyond the official epic of the moment, its historical images are such of great interest.
La red Ponzán La red Ponzán (2022) Character: Self - Politician (archive footage)
During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the Second World War (1939-1945), around three thousand people managed to elude their pursuers, and probably also avoided being killed, thanks to the heroic and very efficient efforts of the Ponzán Team, a brave group of people — mountain guides, forgers, safe house keepers and many others —, led by Francisco Ponzán Vidal, who managed to save their lives, both on one side and the other of the border between Spain and France.
Canciones para después de una guerra Canciones para después de una guerra (1976) Character: Self (archive footage)
A particular reading of the hard years of famine, repression and censorship after the massacre of the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), through popular culture: songs, newspapers and magazines, movies and newsreels.
Le Scandale Clouzot Le Scandale Clouzot (2017) Character: Self (archive footage)
Great filmmakers claim the artistic influence of French director Henri-Georges Clouzot (1907-1977), a master of suspense, with a unique vision of the world, who knew how to offer both great shows and subtle studies of characters. Beyond the myth of the tyrannical director, a contrasting portrait of a visionary, an agitator, an artist against the system.
