The story takes place in the Dolomites, where a conflict arises between the clergy of a monastery and the inhabitants of a shanty town for construction workers over the water supply. A young novice feels increasingly attracted to the men who, after work, enjoy themselves in dimly lit bars with music and alcohol with easy girls. As a result, she is in danger of falling away from the faith and, instigated by a woman from the village, even leaves the convent. In the end, however, she finds her way back to God.
