First, there is Shuxian, whose husband left her and has a son in the hospital who can't walk. Then, there is Meifen, a romance novelist who pines for a deceased lover and, finally Manli, a young lady with some sass who is expecting a visit from Mr. Zheng, a man she has been a pen pal with for a year. She also has been dating someone else, not happily. The film goes through all three lives.

To raise the money for the wedding, Su plans to sell his family yacht to the rich wife of his classmate Lu Zuhua in Hong Kong and promises to buy Pan a pearl necklace. The promiscuous Mrs Lu seduces Su on the yacht and then dumps him. 18 years later, Pan's daughter is getting married. Su prepares a wedding gift—a stolen pearl necklace—for the bride but is too ashamed to show himself.

Korean secret agent Bai Min is sent on a mission to Hong Kong. The coveted military information is nowhere to be found and two of the Korean spies are found murdered. Following the leads left by his unfortunate predecessors, Bai reaches the arms dealer Sha Lao Te through the courtesan Xianglan and her vast network of social connections. Without her realising it, the undercover agent Xianglan falls in love with her very antagonist, who in turn is growing increasingly fond of the fellow agent coming to his aid, Maria. Already consumed with jealousy and now perturbed by the increasing pressure from her boss Hu Lin, Xianglan lures the duo to the nightclub where they are to meet their adversaries lying in wait. But Xianglan gets cold feet and puts her life at stake to pull Bai out of danger. Pitting both his brain and his brawn against the enemy, Bai bounces back to save Maria and accomplishes his task.

Musician Sun Ping is estranged from his wife. Second daughter Yinzheng lives with Sun while eldest daughter Jinliu follows her mother. By coincidence, the sisters both enter the 'Calendar Girl' pageant but Jinliu deliberately lets her sister win the contest. Later, the sisters and Liu Bucheng perform in Sun's musical show. Though the show is a success, Yinzheng decides to quit in order to get married. Not wishing to disappoint their father, Jinliu devises a plan to make Yinzheng stay on, but the plan misfires. Yinzheng leaves angrily. She is at last brought back to the show due to Liu's mediation. The elders also reconcile as the sisters perform together on stage.

Kong is simple, but his girlfriend Dufen is fashionable; Ping is active, but his girlfriend Tang Ying is quiet. The two lovers eventually broke up due to personality disagreement, but instead, they were married to their best friend's partner.

Provoked by jealousy, Xu's long-time girlfriend Tao Haiyin, a local diva, insists on performing at the Palace, too. And when two divas strut their stuff, it's great tunes and hot action. Haiyin's brother Zhengsheng, the bandleader, has fallen out with his sister due to his infatuation with Li. Li misunderstands Zhengsheng's intentions initially but his devotion speaks volumes. Haiyin and Xu also reconcile.
