This film portrays the strength that art has in surviving the megalithic tricks and repressions that the State manipulates towards its compatriots. The colors reflecting the dominance over the being, which, if not thinking, is tortured by its religious, political and academic doctrines, staining and building the States with drops of blood, but the art subjugated and repressed by lobotomized intellectuals of the three doctrines is what we hang and endure our arts and our values in the face of a bankrupt ethics/morality, a false truthfulness created only for the purpose of dominating one another. This art of ours survives and grows stronger as we fight to open up the bulging eyes of our society, already manipulated into being blind, deaf and mute. Our art doesn't speak, it screams! Scream! For only then can ears clogged with false sermons be unblocked like a vase full of shit overflowing with anguish.

Mato Mato Mato - Canibal Filmes e as Produções de 'Horor' no Oeste de SC (2023)

In 1992, a group of teenagers began recording horror films with VHS cameras in Palmitos, in the west of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Led by Santa Catarina director Petter Baiestorf, the production company came to be called Canibal Filmes. Far from large urban centers and in times of stagnation in Brazilian cinema, the group learned in practice how to make low-budget cinema. The films found their own way of financing and showing to the public. Through reports, photographs, documents and videos, the documentary covers Canibal's early years, retracing the group's efforts and challenges in making independent cinema in a region with no cinematic tradition.

At the end of the busy year of 1997, we ended up filming a documentary produced by Jorge Timm. Jorjão's restaurant was very close to the Uruguay River, on Ilha Redonda, and there was a river flood, which rose about eleven meters above the normal level - two meters less than the record high of 1983 - and displaced many people. Claudio Baiestorf, Carli and I went there to record the damage, interview homeless people and invent delusions. We arrived at the place and realized that Jorge had greatly exaggerated, via telephone, the size of the flood damage. There were not even homeless people. Thanks to warnings from the civil defense, all residents had taken precautions. We opened a whiskey and started filming anyway.
