After a night out on the town where Thomas gets drunk, he seeks out his divorced wife and begs her to come back.

However, she returns to her husband, and when Hugo later has his face disfigured in a car accident, he ends up committing suicide. Before doing so, he tells Jack that he and several others have also had relationships with Betty.
