Nelly Was a Lady Nelly Was a Lady (1947) Character: Ezekiel
The Father of American Music, Stephen Foster created melodies for all the world to sing, most memorably his folk songs about the joys and sorrows of the people of the South. His achievements seem miraculous in that he had no musical training, and except for one short visit had never been to the South.
Top of the Town Top of the Town (1937) Character: Porter
In this musical set in swingin' Manhattan, an heiress plans a ballet in the famous Moonbeam ballroom located atop a 100-story skyscraper. Unfortunately, the attending audience is quite bored until someone starts the place swinging. Musical numbers include: "Blame It on the Rhumba," "Where Are You?" "Jamboree," "Top of the Town," "I Feel That Foolish Feeling Coming On," "There's No Two Ways About It," "Fireman Save My Child"
