At the garage, Aki learns about life and the art of archery from peaceful Eino, and falls in love with Eino's daughter Lena who works at the ambulance switchboard. Hunttala buys Hukanharju from the municipality for free, promising to build factories there to create jobs for the municipality, but Hunttala sells the ridge to the gravel magnate and flees Hukansalmi himself.
