Benoît arrives first, accompanied by his boyfriend, Kim. Then come Isabelle, married to a gym teacher, and Laurent, her twin brother. Still missing are Sophie, the family's star TV journalist, and Marc, the eldest son, a wealthy businessman. Relations between the siblings are rather strained, until Juliette learns that her husband, seriously ill, has returned from Brazil and invites them all to his home.

Except for his wide mood swings and occasional outbursts of lewd muttering, the professor "passes" for sane fairly easily. Not so the psychotic (Dominique Pinon) who stows away in the psychiatrist's car, who constantly calls attention to the other two.

Arlette does a romantic take on Bourdalou, which sends the distraught Berrebi off to cry on the shoulder of his mother Gaby (Gina Lollobrigida). Back in Paris, Bourdalou and Berrebi make plans to open a trendy fashion restaurant in Manhattan.
