A short comic film in which young André delivers a telegram to the theatre. Once there, he has to stand in for an actor during a performance of Little Lord Fauntleroy. Despite the chaotic performance, he is very successful.

Business partners Bradley and Collier both love Mary. Bradley leads Collier to believe he is engaged to her so Collier prepares to head West when Lola, the young girl Bradley had seduced and abandoned, appears at the office and begs Bradley for help. He spurns her slipping out of the office and making it appear that Collier is the lout. Mary with that perception marries Bradley only to discover by Lola’s deathbed confession that she has been deceived. Tony, Lola's father, crazed by his daughter's death, comes to Bradley's office and the next day Bradley is found dead. When Tony is arrested Collier steps forward to say he confronted Bradley and as they struggled the revolver Bradley drew went off, killing him. Tony is freed and Collier and Mary marry.

After a prologue where we are shown the backgrounds of Wilhelm II and Woodrow Wilson, we see the story of Conrad Le Brett from Alsace-Lorraine. Forced to fight for Germany Conrad, sees soldiers taking girls into a church to rape them and kills one who murders a baby. Shot in the encounter he is taken to a Brussels hospital run by nurse Edith Cavell where he falls in love with American nurse, Amy Gordon. After Edith Cavell assassination and the murder of Conrad’s sister Vilma by the evil Lieutenant Ober Conrad honors her dying request that he go to America and defend Alsace-Lorraine's reputation. Once there he convinces President Wilson that Alsatians should be allowed to enlist. Fighting with the "doughboys," Conrad kills Ober, and after the armistice, returns to Amy.

The first film having an Irish motif that John Ford directed, a six reel delight set in Eire's County Kildare and in the United States, with a steeplechase background, mixing charged elements of comedy and sentimental drama.
