Kansas' plans to blackmail Beatrix are ruined when Harry visits the two tramps, and Herbert, now dying of tuberculosis, pleads with Kansas to leave the couple in peace. The plot is helped by Virginia's absence on an errand of mercy, but in the end her innocence is established and justice is done.
